Talk of buying South Brisbane factory for Olympics venue 'sends the wrong signal', Cameron Dick says
Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick has put the brakes on a council announcement that a seven-hectare West End glass factory could be purchased to host a temporary broadcast venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told ABC Radio Brisbane today that the Montague Road riverfront site was currently home to a glass factory.
The land was flagged in the International Olympics Committee's Future Host Commission Report in June as the site for a 57,000-square-metre International Broadcasting Centre, from which the Games would be broadcast globally.
