Brisbane City Councillor Fiona Johnston says flooded playgrounds need better remediation
An opposition councillor has accused Brisbane's local government of failing to properly clean playgrounds in the city's south after February's flooding.
At this week's Brisbane City Council meeting, Cr Nicole Johnston said playgrounds could still be contaminated by floodwater and asked Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner whether reopening them was a "failure" of the government.
She said 12 playgrounds had been closed after floodwaters inundated low-lying areas of the Tennyson Ward.
"Council … then hosed down the equipment and reopened them without de-compacting and removing the sewage-contaminated base and soft fall under the play equipment," she said.
